i dont think this has been discussed before, and i hope i can articulate my point clear enough.

on the question of waistband. i have a suit where the waistband is stiff and firm, and another is firm, but crease (horizontally) when you sit down. you can guess which one is english and which one is italian.

now personally, i prefer it not to crease, i find that more comfortable and less irritating. is there a way or a proper term i can tell this to my tailor? is it about the rise of the trouser? or the material used inside the waistband? any insight will be much appreciated.

What's used in the waistband is a canvas tape, or petersham ribbon of varying stiffness. Another product called ''Ban-Rol'' is used. You could always ask the tailor to double the tape to provide a firmer waistband.

cathach, i thought it was something like that, where different tailors use different materials.

let me try and convince my italian tailor to do so, not sure he will buy it though.

i have a feeling, purely from my own logic and nothing else, that where the trouser sits on the waist maybe play a part.
