I'm taking this wonderful flannel to the tailor and I'm still undecided between SB or DB. I really like the pure line of Sb, but then a flannel Db wears like nothing else.
I'd be pleased to hear from fellows LL,
Thank you in advance

You cannot go wrong either way, but if it were me I would go DB. It is a cold weather suit and IMHO the DB comes in for it biggest innings in this mode. Especially if you like it (and you do), and have the figure and, more importantly, the tailor who can fashion it well.
While this is just my opinion, I get most all my suits DB these days. So many odd jackets are SB that a DB suit shakes things up a bit. If you have a tailor that cuts an elegant DB then I'd lean towards that.

Thank you all for your helpful opinions: I'm leaning toward the DB as well.
Pics to follow.
I hope the remaining designs of the Alden flannels will include some triple check; that one I will make as SB.

Dear Costi,
your very beautiful Kent style DB, in the original Eden, was one of the factors who helped me to make the decision,

Gents,
Do you wear your DBs for work at the office? How is a DB for someone spending most of the workday at his desk?
Thanks,
BB

In this case (16 oz flannel cloth DB), it won't be easy to wear it in a overly heated workplace.
If you find yourself in such a situation, either lower the heating temperature a bit, which is good for health, or wear it during weekends or in the evening.
To reply your question, I do not feel unconfortable wearing DB at work, I like it, actually.
I also happen to wear knit vest with SB during winter lately, so maybe I became sensitive to cold.

bond,
I wear the DB coat very often to the office. In the summer months I nearly always remove whatever coat I'm wearing while working at desk. During nonsummer months my office tends to be cool so I normally wear a coat either DB or SB. Even keeping the DB buttoned, I notice no difference in comfort.
Though I have always liked the style, I resisted wearing the DB suit for many years because I rarely saw them in my work environment. Should have come to my senses long ago. I enjoy wearing them now and judging from various comments, my colleagues find them favorable. Although still rare, I see more of them today. There is hope.

Contento, Marlon, grazie!
Why not, BB? What difference does it make? If I keep my coat on, I unbutton it (oh, no, this should not be done, right?...). Or I take it off if it gets warm - the important thing is to remain comfortable.bond_and_beyond wrote:Gents,

Just don't let the suit wear you and you'll be fine. Do take your DBs to work and teach them how to behave.

Thanks to all of you gents for your persuasive arguments for DBs in the office. I am softening to the idea

The key is having one that is well-cut. If there's enough mobility in the upper arms that you can write or reach your phone without unbuttoning the jacket while seated then all is good. Assuming, of course, that it's not overheated, or that your office-mates don't give you grief for a small bit of non-conformity.

I had a fitting of the suit yesterday. The cloth is marvelous! The mottling is so rich
I took a pic with my phone once the coat was again in the taylor's shop window

Once I take the suit home I'll take more useful pictures
Thanks to Michael and to fellows subscribers for making this reissue possible
(And, yes, that is a ticket pocket )

Those lapels are shaping up nicely. Look foward to seeing the finished coat.
