In a couple of weeks we'll be spending a day and overnight in Milan at the tail end of a week touring the Piedmont vineyards. I've il vecchio drappiere on my 'to do' list, is there anything else that members would recommend?

I spent much time in Milan in the late 90's and want to visit a couple of my old haunts. I know Bar Bindi is still there, but how about the pizzeria close to the duomo? The one with the Ferrari and Formula 1 memorabilia.

I'm not sure about the Ferrari memorabilia, but inside the arcade Vittorio Emanuelle next to the Duomo you can find pizzeria Galleria. IMO the best pizza downtown Milan and in a very elegant setting.
Be warned: the handsome waiters will whisper "bella" in your wife's ear when helping her with the chair or the jacket.

Dear Man at C&A,
when in Il vecchio drappiere, may I suggest to make sure you ask for old bolts of cloth, since they're usually tucked away. Otherwise you'll be shown the usual cloth.
Last time I checked in July, they had some good old overcoating tweed and a few bolts of proper Reid and taylor.
Saluti
