Funny you should bring him up, Alexandra - I like the way he thinks, not only the way he plays:

Charlie is my brother's best friend. I can certainly attest to his passion for music, his extraordinary tenacity at pursuing it and his character; anyone who goes out of his way to charm my grandmother is in my good books. Biased though I may be.

As for his mind, Eton and Cambridge probably helped there. Several videos of his interview with dunhill pop up on youtube...

Alexandra,

Clip no. 1 in your previous post is about "success"... even all alone.
Clip no. 2 is about the "watertight mind", perhaps :)
(or is it "pressure"? )
I like the first part of his Csardas a lot, but otherwise there is a bit of... Eton in it? :D
The playful spirit of the Csardas is more like this (from a gypsy fiddler): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQfsSHunNl0
At any rate, Charlie Siem is in my good books, too, even though he never had the chance to charm MY grandmother ;)
"Release" is his motto, he says...
"The transformed speaks only to relinquishers. All holders-on are stranglers." - wrote Rilke.

"where do you go to my lovely?"

1969.

"I remember the backstreets of Naples…"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRDaeLs6 ... ata_player

You talk like Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire
Your clothes are all made by Balmain
And there’s diamonds and pearls in your hair, yes there are.

You live in a fancy apartment
Off the Boulevard of St. Michel
Where you keep your Rolling Stones records
And a friend of Sacha Distel, yes you do.

You go to the embassy parties
Where you talk in Russian and Greek
And the young men who move in your circles
They hang on every word you speak, yes they do.

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes i do.

I've seen all your qualifications
You got from the Sorbonne
And the painting you stole from Picasso
Your loveliness goes on and on, yes it does.

When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pines
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs.

And when the snow falls you're found in St. Moritz
With the others of the jet-set
And you sip your Napoleon Brandy
But you never get your lips wet, no you don't.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/peter+sars ... 39797.html ]
But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
would you Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do.

You're in between 20 and 30
A very desirable age
Your body is firm and inviting
But you live on a glittering stage, yes you do, yes you do.

Your name is heard in high places
You know the Aga Khan
He sent you a racehorse for Christmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh ha-ha-ha

They say that when you get married
It'll be to a millionaire
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care, or give a damn

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes i do.

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly brown tags, they try

So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
But I know you still bear
the scar, deep inside, yes you do

I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I know the thoughts that surround you
`Cause I can look inside your head.

I also recently sang this one to my Good Lady on her birthday and it made her cry:

Mind you, if I sang it to you, you'd cry too! Har har har.

Buena Vista Social Club
Chan chan Lyrics

De Alto Cedro voy para Marcan¨¦
Luego A Cueto voy para Mayar¨ª.

El carino que te tengo
Yo no lo puedo negar
Se me sale la babita
Yo no lo puedo evitar

Cuando Juanica y Chan Chan
En el mar cern¨ªan arena
Como sacud¨ªa el 'jibe'
A Chan Chan le daba pena

Limpia el camino de paja
Que yo me quiero sentar
En aquel tronco que veo
Y as¨ª no puedo llegar

De Alto Cedro voy para Marcan¨¦
Luego a Cueto voy para Mayar¨ª.

English translation:
I'm going from Alto Cedro to Marcan¨¦
Then from Cueto, I'm going to Mayiar¨ª.

The love I have for you
I cannot deny
My mouth is watering
I just can't help myself.

When Junika and Chan Chan
Sifted sand together on the beach
How her bottom shook and
Chan Chan was aroused!

Clean the dry sugar cane leaves
from the path
So I can get to that trunk
I want to sit down.

I'm going from Alto Cedro to Marcan¨¦
Then from Cueto, I'm going to Mayiar¨ª.

A recording from the Rustavi Ensemble and Hamlet Gonashvili of Georgia from the 1970's. I heard this being sung outside the window of my house in Rustavi last night by the local lads...

"I walked by the spring;
I met a beautiful girl;
The one holding a jug on her shoulder;
I told her a word; she got angry with me and stood aside.
I walked by the spring"
