Bespoke Overcoat neophyte needs help!
oh, that!...
Some samples have arrived and there are some great choices. Harrisons have two very nice grey herringbones...
They are much lighter than these pics. In fact , the reverse side ( not the label side of the 83902 is exactly the colour I would like...and is the colour the pic shows. I think the label side, in reality, is too white, but of course, I haven't seen it made up. I don't suuppose the finish is the same on both sides , for overcoating? Also, the samples of Golden Bale with 15% cashmere really look the part, I think. Any comments?...Rowly, since you asked for comments....
83902 IMO seems a bit fuzzy and light colored when seen at larger scale. How much does is weight?
You said that you wanted "bigger emphasis on aesthetics rather than functionality" so I would consider the tighter herringbone of the Harrison´s 74120 (P&B Universal). It seems the right shade of grey and at around 18oz very suitable for lighter overcoating.
I´ve also seen also the 82060 very handsome at 23 oz. Maybe this one was discontinued and substituted by the one which you just received the sample. I hope the pictures help.
Finally, since this is a one-off bespoke OC commission for you, it wouldn´t be bad to go for a more luxurious cloth.
(And I won´t insist with the velvet collar after Michael´s intimidating please)

hectorm ,
The PB 74120 has been on my list for some time as a potential suit either 3-pce or db. I have had my second fitting for the POW with red panes from this book, and am very excited by its tweedy hand. Harrisons sent me a variety of samples, but not the one you show ( 82060), which is what I had in mind. The 83902, in reality, looks the same as your 82060, and is 600g/22oz-all wool. I am seriously considering going for something a bit more drerssy, as you suggest, and there are two 650g/21oz...in 85% Golden Bale and 15% cashmere. They are very nice and feel really smooth.( Grey-83924; and navy-83925 ) For a little more nubbiness, there is 600g/22oz 83904...this one has some nice tonal depth with different coloured threads in the mix. How does one decide? So far, I'm leaning towards the grey Golden Bale ( conservative and dressy) or, the 83902 Herringbone-light grey, with a bit more self expression. I wonder might Harrisons, in their wisdom, have had it designed a bit light so that on dull dark winter days the absence of light will bring it down to the most pleasing visual tone? It would be great to see some of these made up, to get a better idea. Thanks again for your help....Rowly..
