That makes me very happy, Gido! Thank you for your words!
Those ARE so beautiful...
I suppose I've been listening to so much live music lately that I find little time / mood for recordings.
If anything, perhaps this should be my "music of the day" posting: go to concerts more often, music lovers! The experience (even if it can prove occasionally disappointing) is so different and so much worth the effort. (A)live music!
(and, I can't help it, here is a naughty piece for some fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpGZd36Y ... 792246D4CF)

Great listening for breakfast on a gray day like today (thinking of Aldeburgh).

Money for Nothing (1988)
Money For Nothing
Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb
We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these color TV's
See the little faggot with the earring and the make-up
Yeah buddy that's his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he's millionaire
We gotta install microwawve ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these color TV's
I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin' in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And he's up there, what's that ? Hawaiian noises ?
Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free
We gotta install ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these color TV's, Lord
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' get your chicks for free

"Beim Schlafengehen"
(Text: Hermann Hesse)
Nun der Tag mich müd gemacht,
soll mein sehnliches Verlangen
freundlich die gestirnte Nacht
wie ein müdes Kind empfangen.
Hände, laßt von allem Tun
Stirn, vergiß du alles Denken,
Alle meine Sinne nun
wollen sich in Schlummer senken.
Und die Seele unbewacht
will in freien Flügen schweben,
um im Zauberkreis der Nacht
tief und tausendfach zu leben.
Beautiful words, woven to music by Richard Strauss in "Vier letzte Lieder - Four last Songs"
2 unforgettable "master seamstresses" tailoring the Strauss cloth:
Lucia Popp, LA Philharmonic, Giulini: http://youtu.be/VvYN0JiCWvg
Gundula Janowitz, Berliner, Karajan: http://youtu.be/TuSJJ4lHIQM
Perhaps Popp is like a flannel suit, Janowitz the ultimate white tie
cheers, david

Perhaps Popp is like a flannel dressing gown, while Janowitz is silk brocade. Over pyjamas, or course...

nuts... Ha, Ha, Ha
Lyrics: R. Wilbor
Music: Leonard Bernstein - "Candide"
Glitter and be gay
That’s the part I play
Here I am in Paris, France
Forced to bend my soul
To a sordid role
Victimized by bitter, bitter circumstance
Alas for me, had I remained beside my lady mother
My virtue had remained unstained
Until my maiden hand was gained by some grand duke,
Or other
Ah, 'twas not to be
Harsh necessity
Brought me to this gilded cage
Born to higher things
Here I droop my wings
Singing of a sorrow
Nothing can assuage
And yet, of course, I rather like to revel, ha, ha!
I have no strong objection to champagne, ha ha
My wardrobe is expensive as the devil, ha ha
Perhaps it is ignoble to complain-
Enough, enough
Of being basely tearful
I’ll show my noble stuff
By being bright and cheerful
Ha, Ha, Ha -
Pearls and ruby rings
Ah, how can worldly things take the place of honor lost?
Purchased, as they were, at such an awful cost!
Bracelets, lavalieres, can they dry my tears?
Can they blind my eyes from shame!
Can the brightest broach shield me from reproach?
Can the purest diamond purify my name?
And yet, of course, these trinkets are endearing, ha ha!
I’m oh so glad my sapphire is a star, ha ha.
I rather like a 20 carat earring, ha ha!
If I’m not pure, at least my jewels are
Enough, enough, I’ll take that diamond necklace
And show my noble stuff
By being gay and reckless!
Ha, Ha, Ha!

Too bad his plea came too late to save Schicchi from Dante's Inferno.
When you need to get in a good mood next, try a little of this... self-esteem

(oh, and she has good reason, with that voice...)
Bartoli´s voice and, of course, Handel´s music is a very uplifting combination indeed. Notwithstanding I have something funny going on with Donna Cecilia: she is one of the few singers who I love listening but not seeing. I close my eyes and I love her, open them and I don´t (love is not blind in this case).
For lack of admirers, she decided to adore herself...
As for your love for her...

Se tu m’ami, se sospiri
Sol per me, gentil pastor,
Ho dolor de’ tuoi martiri,
Ho diletto del tuo amor,
Ma se pensi che soletto
Io ti debba riamar,
Pastorello, sei soggetto
Facilmente a t’ingannar.

You can, but don't need to throw yourself in the Arno with Donna Renata
