What Are Women Good For?
Come on, it's not that bad...
^to Rowly
Just joking...although I am against the idea of dressing for women,......undressing, perhaps!
If you do not provoke disapproval in a woman you will never earn her approval. A man is that grain of sand that creates a pearl in a woman's heart. What man can truly withstand the disapproval of women?
My grandfather used to say, "Dress so that women smile at you, and men curse you!" That advice has never failed. But understand that in her first smile a woman should be laughing at you. Later, should you desire it, she will laugh with you. And later still, should you still desire it, she will never leave your side.
Cheers

Indeed, I would prefer strong disapproval to indifference any day!
Adam didn't dress for Eve - he dressed BECAUSE of her.
I find Michael's remarks very wise. Approval granted has little value. Approval earned is invaluable - it brings along respect, admiration, attraction (to opposite).
Dress to impress and that's all you get: impressions pass quickly.
You would think ladies are happy when you follow their counsel; they are not! It's not what they expect of you, even if it looks like it. They prefer to be intrigued and challenged. If they don't, you're wasting your time...
So... perhaps dress in spite of women?

If a woman is not intrigued and challenged, you are really wasting her time!
I used to say that if a man did not risk being slapped at least a few times a week, he was not fulfilling his masculine responsibilities. I have revised my view to think that a man needs a good duck everyday.
Speaking of woman, something I very much like to do, though speaking with them is more fun...I have never seen a time when ladies, especially those lovely, still blossoming flowers in their thirties, are so starved for real masculine attention in the very traditional sort of way. Never has so much been required from so few of us gallant lads who remember how to do it!
Cheers

In that case, I have to confess that, as a challenge to the local youngsters' favela-rap ("pain in the head" a local bar owner ventured to say to me - and that's putting it at the highest), we've got out some old Edmundo Ros and Xavier Cugat recordings and taken to the rumba and cha-cha-cha in the late evenings on the top front verandah, much to the vocal delight of passers-by [Whistles and "Feliz! Feliz" as well as car horns]. Fortunately, they are far enough away not to be able to see me mouthing the beat to keep, more or less, in time.

Slow enoughfor our old bones - but fast enough to get the blood circulating, in between cooling pastis.
I think that it is a very great shame indeed that fairly closed dancing has been displaced, in favour of a general shakin' it. They don't know what they are missing!

Well, I have been dressed by women all my life and they have made me the man that I am today.
I am also looking for some women to intrigue and if they are in their 30s, well, that's just about perfect. If they are starving, all the better, as I like them thin. And they put up less resistance I believe.
I must agree that 30s is a particularly interesting age though there are many. I once thought that 17 was a nice number but that's getting a bit dicey; you'd be surprised how mature girls are these days. Or maybe you wouldn't.
I will tell them that I am a founding member of LL and have been hardened and wizened and drilled, have a Ph.D in dress and charm, and really don't give a damn. I hope that that will get me far. Maybe even slapped if I handle it right. Ducking daily is good too though twice a day would be too much at my age. Now, do I have to come to Paris for these poor, deprived women?
Otherwise, I agree will all that the gentlemen here have said though I doubt that the combined wisdom here really begins to scratch the surface. There is much to learn, no doubt. All of it contradictory.
In the meanwhile, I always enjoyed this quote about the king of Hollywood, Clark Gable:
A common observation about Gable's masculinity around the MGM lot was that "when he walked down the alley, you could almost hear his balls clank."
Here's to starving women and clanking balls; they must be good for something.

Just for the anecdote, when I showed my 30yo, very urban and fashion oriented girlfriend my new, magnificent 4to1, DB Agnelli flannel suit (which will be shown here soon ), her first reaction was to laugh and mock me saying that she was "tired of having a 75 year old boyfriend"- I'm 28 by the way.
Of course I had a smile on my face because I just knew what would happen; we went out some times, me being dressed with that same DB, getting eyes and nice comments from respectable and young ladies... The gf wouldn't say anything but I knew
And just a few days ago, when we were preparing for her laid back father's bday, I was shuffling through clothes and thought out loud "well, of course I won't put on a DB" she turned her head too me, mouth open with shock "But why??? I love Double breasted!"
