A vote for belted trousers
Are they that bad? I don't think so. It depends on your build. A slim person can wear them easily. In fact they may even serve him well, because the belt softens the vertical lines.
Totally agree. For my daily wear, belts are the norm and braces -or side adjusters- the exception. I never understood all that talk regarding how constrictive belts are while standing up or how excruciating while being seated. Seriously?
I would even add that most of my bespoke or MTM trousers do not need any kind of extra aid for staying in place. They are cut that way with a narrower waist band and wider hips. With RTW trousers I fix that with a tailor's help.
Thus I don't wear belts out of need but because somehow I feel "unfinished" without them and therefore I generally buy or commission trousers with belt loops. Notwithstanding, I also own trousers made to be worn with braces. Particularly with DB suits or my DJ.
I would vote for belted trousers without voting against braces.

Any kind of trousers look good on Coop, such naturally long legs and slim waste. How would he look with braced trousers? Better, would be my guess. Moreover, the cloth would drape more elegantly.
Dear Gruto,
this is an old debate. He looks good wearing a belt, and I know many elegant men who do look good as well with their belts.
However, this is not the decisive factor for me. Braces are more comfortable. I never have to adjust my trousers, they stay all day where they should be.
Cheers, David

Had he been wearing braces while walking the streets of Rome, I doubt Joe Bradley would have conquered the heart of Princess Ann.
And his trousers, with a belt, still drape very well and stay where they should be.

A strong argument for sure. But perhaps she likes excess folds of cloth around Joe's ankles.
It´s the look that goes well with the folds of the collar on a button-down shirt, isn´t it?rodes wrote:But perhaps she likes excess folds of cloth around Joe's ankles.
She must have fallen in love when she saw that he tucked in his necktie for going down the Spanish steps.
I must admit that I like the belt on Princess Ann.
Wrist watches are not bad either, Gruto!Gruto wrote:Are they that bad?
Get one and you can stay strapped day and night. Suit it to the trousers' belt, of course - matchy-matchy

When wearing belted trousers, I take them off when I get home in the afternoon. When wearing trousers with braces or side adjusters, I wear them all day. That's why I prefer going beltless.
Well, I prefer making love in the afternoon without my trousers on. May be that's why I prefer to wear a belt.J.S. Ah hectorm, We mature Loungers smile for the impetuous fire of your youth. When we engage in such activities we leave our trousres on and braced. Else, they will not drape elegantly.
Yes, you have a very good point. I guess that in moments of weakness I end up mixing up my priorities.rodes wrote:Ah hectorm, We mature Loungers smile for the impetuous fire of your youth. When we engage in such activities we leave our trousres on and braced. Else, they will not drape elegantly.
