Turn up the volume. Take off the tweeds. Light up. Can you hear it callin'? Listen carefully.

Led Zeppelin: Baby I'm Gonna Leave You...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrVDViSlsSM

"Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You"

Babe, baby, baby, I'm Gonna Leave You.
I said baby, you know I'm gonna leave you.
I'll leave you when the summertime,
Leave you when the summer comes a-rollin'
Leave you when the summer comes along.

Baby, baby, I don't wanna leave you,
I ain't jokin' woman, I got to ramble.
Oh, yeah, baby, baby, I believin',
We really got to ramble.
I can hear it callin' me the way it used to do,
I can hear it callin' me back home!

Babe...I'm gonna leave you
Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you
Oh I can hear it callin 'me
I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?

I know I never never never gonna leave your babe
But I got to go away from this place,
I've got to quit you, yeah
Baby, ooh don't you hear it callin' me?
Woman, woman, I know, I know
It feels good to have you back again
And I know that one day baby, it's really gonna grow, yes it is.
We gonna go walkin' through the park every day.
Come what may, every day

It was really, really good.
You made me happy every single day.
But now... I've got to go away!

Baby, baby, baby, baby
That's when it's callin' me
I said that's when it's callin' me back home...

It was such a crazy song, I had to ask them what it was called. It's not what I usually listen to but, well a little craziness is good for you! :)

How about a beautiful Francoise Hardy song?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC4i9yv1mhI

Nevermind, TWO Hardy songs!

And one France Gall song!

And Berger for the road!

oh, yes,

the context of someone mentioning reggae made me flash on this song:

it's a simple old song, but there's so much feeling inside.

Zeppelin rocks.

This is one of the many shortcomings of the anonymous internet: you never really know the person you are talking to.

So we must have a drink to put matters straight.

In the meanwhile, I am sure that the gentlemen of the LL, eccentrics and characters all, will relate to this group of gentlemen Texas crooners.

Remember, they gotta lotta nice girls in Texas. Have mercy!

ZZ Top: La Grange.

Plus a performance, Live at Clapton's Guitar Festival (2010):

La Grange

Rumour sprendin' a-'round in that Texas town
'bout that shack outside La Grange
and you know what I'm talkin' about.
Just let me know if you wanna go
to that home out on the range.
They gotta lotta nice girls.

Have mercy.

A haw, haw, haw, haw, a haw.
A haw, haw, haw.

Well, I hear it's fine if you got the time
and the ten to get yourself in.
A hmm, hmm.
And I hear it's tight most ev'ry night,
but now I might be mistaken.
hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.

Have mercy.

Steely Dan, Deacon Blues:

This is the night
Of the expanding the man
I take one last drag
As I approach the stand
I cried when I wrote this song
Sue me if I play too long
This brother is free
I'll be what I want to be

Love all the Soul. But Dionne Warwick's Walk On By really tugs at my heart. What a voice. What a song.

Here are two more from Warwick. Just wonderful.

Someone played this for me today and I can't get the tune out of my head. I hadn't heard it in sooo long.

A toast to our Canadian friends here.

Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My MInd

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta0a3DFUU0Y

If You Could Read My Mind, ©1969 by Gordon Lightfoot

If you could read my mind, love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong,
With chains upon my feet.
You know that ghost is me.
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see.

If I could read your mind, love,
What a tale your thoughts could tell.
Just like a paperback novel,
The kind the drugstores sell.
Then you reached the part where the heartaches come,
The hero would be me.
But heroes often fail,
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take!

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script.
Enter number two:
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me.
But for now, love, let's be real;
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back.

If you could read my mind, love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong.
With chains upon my feet.
But stories always end,
And if you read between the lines,
You'd know that I'm just tryin' to understand
The feelin's that you lack.
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back!
