I'm interested in buying maybe one of Lock & Co's Fedoras or their new "Atlantic" however I am not sure which colour I should choose? I want the most versatility as possible. Most of my garments are blue but what if I happen to wear a black overcoat?
Grey is a neutral colour and is versatile. If you have a narrow face you might want one with a more narrow brim.
Would you not try one of the well-respected bespoke hatmakers such as Art Fawcett, Optimo in Chicago etc., there are other names on this forum as well.
At any rate contrasting hat and overcoat and hat should not present a problem. Matchy-matchy is the greatest enemy of a man's style in my opinion.

I'm in France, we don't (to my knowledge) have any bespoke hat makers.
I'm not sure about brown, I never wear anything brown unless I am wearing really casual clothes such as jeans and an oxford shirt.
Grey? Hmm, why not. But won't it get damaged more easily by rain and other elements?

Apparently one of the late Fernand Sebbah's apprentices (of DBM Chapelier) is making bespoke hats in Paris now; if you PM Michael Alden, he could give you the contact details.

What price range are we talking about, any idea? If he isn't too expensive I might visit him.Simon A wrote:Apparently one of the late Fernand Sebbah's apprentices (of DBM Chapelier) is making bespoke hats in Paris now; if you PM Michael Alden, he could give you the contact details.
Anyone who was apprenticed to Fernand Sebbah is worthy of consideration, I have not dealt with her but the website is

If you visit then please report back!
Any hat is better than no hat but a hat made for you will be something special.

Could anyone post some pictures of a grey fedora worn with overcoats in other colours? I have a hard time picturing whether it would look good or not.
