Suits and Odd Jackets in the Wardrobe

What is the proportion of suits to odd jackets in you wardrobe? I realize that this is highly dependent on one's personnal occupation and social expectations. For myself it seems to be about two suits for every one odd jacket. I suspect this is somewhat typical for a fellow Lounger.

I no longer own a decent suit. Nowadays my closet is filled with Blazers I admit. Hopefully this will change once I am a little more wealthy and can afford a new commission.

Better to own a few odd jackets than to be possessed by too many suits: the burden of choosing can become unbearable

Mixed outfits were the norm before the Victorians gave the world dittoes and there is much to be said for them - I guess that the short-coat (stroller) morning dress was a hang-over, which has just about faded away.

Much as I enjoy my suits..I really love my tweeds and brogues, so I am focusing a bit on this at the minute. Deciding on a suit is less risky because usually, even if it turns out a different shade than expected, it will still be pleasing. However, with bright colours and large scale patterns, I fear it is more critical to get it right with odd jackets( unless, of course, you are playing very safe). Currently, I am considering a Russell check from Bateman Ogden.

I hope it's not a fiasco! I find this requires a bigger leap of faith than bespeaking a suit. Can anyone relate to this?

It's just more fun with odd clothes, isnt' it? That's why we love them! And we never get it right, however critical that might be, but we do love every fiasco that we proudly produce

NJS wrote "the stroller...has just about faded away." Sad but true, for as I have always maintained there is much to be said for this coat. It is smart, practical, and always appreciated. When worn for the right occasion, it does not call surplus attention and this an essential element of style. Those who recognize it really enjoy seeing it, while those who do not view the coat simply as a dressy odd jacket. Have one commissioned and bring back the custom of semi-formal day wear. You will be accomplishing something valuable by restoring a sense of occasion to this modern, often discourteous world.

I did consider commissioning a stroller for my wedding, but I was afraid that people would assume I was a mason, or worse, an orangeman.
