Overcoat pockets

Despite having had all my suits bespoke made since I was 16 I have never had an over coat this made. That said I rarely wear one - even in the UK.

Does anyone have any advice on inside pockets in an over coat.

At sixty, the cold is just coming up on me so I reckon that one decent over coat for business will be useful.

Besides one or two breast pockets I would be thrilled if I could get a big scarf/hare pocket like the one in this picture:

If you don't mind me asking, how could you manage without wearing an overcoat often in winter? A personal driver? A big cashmere scarf?

I had an overcoat made last year by my London tailor (Meyer & Mortimer/Jones Chalk & Dawson) in a 25 oz Dugdale charcoal cloth.
It has two upper inner breast pockets (same size as in a suit) plus two large ones on either side, with tab and button, down at thigh/knee level. These are for storing a scarf, a pair of gloves and/or a folding hat.
I hope this helps.

I realise that you asked about inside pockets, and I have nothing to add to what the Good Frog said already, but I would suggest that you consider having the outside hip pockets to be made of velvet (short nap) instead of the usual pocketing cloth. I find it to be a nice little secret to warm one's hands.

An interesting thought, thanks although my late mother would have been horrified at keeping one's hands in one's pockets!

TK.

Strangely having never felt cold in the UK I have always found an umbrella sufficient to deal with rain. Sadly I cannot aspire to a driver, do you commend that as an ambition?

Ah, we wouldn't want to cause any anxieties, would we?
