Linen in a tweedlike weave?

Has anyone tried a sport coat in a fabric like this? I'm a little sheepish to share this, but I was at a furniture store the other day and thought some of the linen upholstery would make a great sport coat. The fabric was thick and porous, like a tweed, but made of linen.

Good idea or bad idea?

I really don't know. Because I bought a similar piece a couple of years ago and haven't decided to make it up yet :) But it did look very promising!

Perhaps it might come with the additional advantage of being fire-retardant and stain-resistant . . . .

This has been an area of interest for me over the years. I have several all linen tweed pattern jackets, loomed in Scotland. Some were prototypes from the parent company of Minnis, some twenty years ago, another was bought in London at a remainder shop. I like them very much, but am not aware of any current production from UK mills. I think Scabal may have some, but there is never any indication of country of origin with Scabal. I would avoid any Italian linen in tweed patterns.

I have been interested in commissioning a classic Scottish tweed in the all linen. Anyone interested? Anyone, Mr. Alden??

I think it would definitely be worth looking into.

The color plates in the reference book Scottish Estate Tweeds provides excellent examples.

That would be a bonus.

I might be interested. But more than the pattern, what grabs me atm is simply the thick, rough texture. I'd like a plain dark brown or medium taupe, maybe an olive.

Tweeds in Malaysia, not very encouraging,The sound of 'linen' is most welcome, especially in the Tweed look. It's almost impossible to get such cloth here, but plenty Italian linen of 8/9oz.I am glad to be counted in if project gets through.
Brisa would be a good alternative since it is a summer cloth.
