Gentlemen,

Just to let you know on some newcomers ( ) to the Row.

Last week Mr Lachter, who is my shirtmaker, told me that:
at the end of next week, our new address will be 13 New Burlington Street, London, W1S 3BG.
The most exciting part is "our" -- meaning that Mr Kent is finally fully recovered and back to business!

Given that I received this message 11 days ago, "end of next week" is just about now. Sadly, I don't live in London, so can't go in and greet Messrs Lachter and Kent myself...

I popped in at lunch time, to say hello and check out the new shop (it was most recently used by Denman & Goddard) and learned that the new tenants are in fact a trio: Stephen Lachter, John Kent and Terry Haste (ex-Huntsman). Although I know that in reality I prefer soft tailoring I'm still tempted by the idea of a Terry Haste jacket, because it's probably as close to a Huntsman coat as I'll ever get.

Lugano, thanks for the pic!

Windows are quite empty... not much hope for "walk-ins", it seems. :)

On a slightly related note: as been reported in "Permanent Style" blog entry, David Ward left Nortons for Huntsman.

This makes me wonder -- what's happening with Nortons, with two prominent cutters (Messrs Lachter and Ward) left?

Three heavy hitters all under one roof in spitting distance of the Row, that's fantastic.

Journalist and dandy Nick Foulkes uses Mr. Haste and has commented frequently on the quality of his work.

So, if you were buying a suit from Kent, Haste & Lachter,

who would you choose as your cutter?

John Kent or Terry Haste?

And for what reason(s)?

John Kent. Just a personal preference, without any hard reasons behind it.

Terry Haste, because he is another of the rare breed of English tailors who will actually make what you ask him for.

The atelier moved to new premises -- 7, Sackville Street (formerly occupied by Fallan & Harvey).

This is due to coming redevelopment of a good part of New Burlington Street.

Presumably, New Burlington Street is about to undergo needless 'redevelopment', to match the sky-scrapers intended for eastern Jermyn Street; the site of the old Regent Palace Hotel and the south side of Leicester Square.
