I have to say that I have only had one unlined coat - some time ago - I felt that it did not stand up as well as a a fully lined coat: Creasing and general feel and appearance when worn.
Since then I have only had fully lined coats and certainly in UK temperatures have been perfectly at ease.

I think you are right, DFR, but I also think I don't mind that kind of aesthetics on a linen coat that is supposed to look rumpled anyway, because it's the nature of the material. If the linen hefty enough (like the one in the pictures appears), it's just good synergy between choice of cloth and choice of tailoring method. You couldn't do this in a soft flannel for instance, I think, and call the result a coat instead of a cardigan.
