There are some excellent trains and journeys on this site. I must declare an interest that The Royal Scotman is run by an old friend of mine.

Michael Crick (now on Newsnight but then working Channel 4 news) interviewed me on the Orient Express in the early 1990s. The interview, 10 minutes, was conducted (amazingly in one take) after a fabulous champagne lunch!

I must say that of these rare few experiences that live up to expectations, a train journey on the Ghan in Australia ranks up at the top. One must note that Australian style of service is superficially very casual, but when it is well done it bears all the hallmarks of serious attention to detail and delivery that you would expect from the more formal cultures.
