All,
I have recently received an invite to attend the races during the summer months, and wondered whether anyone would be able to shed some light on the typical attire for such events. Bearing in mind that this is primarily an event at which to entertain one's clients, I doubt going in morning dress is going to be suitably appropriate.
I would be keen to hear the collective wisdom of this forum.

I think it would depend on which country you are in, and also whether it is for city races or country races. In Australia, either lounge suit or blue blazer/grey trousers would be fine for city races, and for country races (or picnic races), bone cotton drill trousers, sports jacket and hat (felt or straw) would be pretty standard. It would be interesting to hear of the different dress codes for UK, Europe, and different parts of the US (north vs south) for comparison.

You will only need morning dress in the Royal Enclosure during Royal Ascot in June.
Which meet, and where are you sitting.

Apologies for not clarifying earlier.
This is for the Newmarket races in Suffolk, England in July. Not clear about seating at the present moment.

Wear a suit. You'll be in good company. You'll notice in the salons by the paddock or the marquis across the field everyone will be in suits. Not necessarily "city" suits, but those okay, too.
Assuming this to bea decent class of invitation, a suit will be fine.
If it is not and you will be picnicking somewhere about the course a suit be be optional,
