Rinuccio's tweed jacket

I never fancied Rinuccio, the young Donati in Giaccomo Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi", in early XXth century rather than in 1300 Florence, but here it is, in Jack O'Brien's 2007 staging:

Yes it is a nice coat, seems to suit both him and that production ( which I had not seen before) so well.
Nice thought he coat may be I would now love to see the whole opera which looks like a great production with great singing.
I might find myself transported to Florence for a while.
There seem to be so many You tube extracts from it that put together, we nearly have the whole opera.
But back to your point Costi, you are right , the jacket does move so well with him.

Firenze e' come un albero fiorito... I won't mind being transported there any time and especially now, that the trees are literally blooming. But the metaphor is true, Florence is one city where commerce and art thrived together, the lucrative and the noble enterprises contributing equally to its fame and success. Imagine what it would have been like in the 1300s to be the citizen of the World's richest and most beautiful city (provided one could abstract oneself from politics). Not to speak of the exquisite taste of the Florentines in all aspects of elegant life: dress, gastronomy, dwelling etc. - that perpetuated itself pretty much intact to the present day. Perhaps, if you think of it, the transplantation in time of the subject is not that far-fetched - and the singing does sound good.
And all I can think of is a tweed coat!
