Does anyone have any brilliant ideas on adapting trousers to accommodate mobile phones etc?
It has been easy to do it for the coat - simply have my tailor add extra ticket pockets inside the coat to the sizes needed. However at times the coat is not worn nor a case carried. I steadfastly refuse to hang them from my belt - looks dreadful which leaves on putting them in a back pocket which can be a bit hard or in a side pocket which creates a large and unsightly bulge.
Any brilliant ideas?
Carrying electronic devices
I almost always wear a suitcoat or sportcoat, partly for this reason, but mostly to keep my wallet and pen handy. I try not to use my mobile phone unless I am on the go, so if I don't need have need of my wallet or keys or a pen, I am also likely to not need (or want) a phone/blackberry.
I have my coats now made with two inside "cigarette" pockets - one takes my blackberry and one takes housekeys in a small case.
If you need to carry your phone with you and it is slim enough, have your front trouser pocketys made with a smaller, interior pocket that sits high near your hip to hold your phone. That will keep the phone from falling to the bottom of the pocket and sitting on your outside thigh where it will bulge. You probably have a small change pocket sized to hold a few coins sewn inside the front pocket bag already, so you can see what I mean. Just have another pocket made on the other side to hold your phone.

I'm with Dopey on this-It's best to use the "cigarette" pocket in the jacket (small interior pocket on the left skirt). I've found that getting pockets within pockets (getting a small "change" pocket inside the regular side pockets works well- just get them deep enough. A horizontal slit pocket at the waistband works pretty well too but it has to be deep and you're phone has to be thin/small. If you're hooked on blackberries, I'd suggest a jacket or (eek!) back pocket.
Either the waistband pocket (slit on the outside, or if you wear braces, an internal one) or pleats and generously-cut trousers.

Did no one ever wonder why the ’cigarette pocket’ is too small to take a packet of cigarettes?yachtie wrote:It's best to use the "cigarette" pocket in the jacket (small interior pocket on the left skirt).
I was told (and it makes perfect sense to me), that pocket was added in the late 19th century
to uniform coats in order to carry a supply of condoms.

The perfect answer is to buy your Good Lady a capacious Birkin bag and ask her to store all your bulky items in there (everything except your handkerchiefs, your watch and your snuff box); you simply ask for the rest to be produced as the occasion requires.
