One of our members sent me this photo taken from a film starring R Valentino. The coat in question is a DB Ulster, made with a reversible collar and a Raglan sleeve. The result is quite handsome and very different from the images of other coats I have seen of this type.
This illustration from ’35 shows the kind of bulky and unattractive line normally associated with the model in question.
The Ulsterwith a Raglan sleeve fares no better in this illustration (clearly not of L Fellows quality.)
Though I would still prefer the Polo or standard Ulster, this model potentially has appeal. When the LL Polo coat is finished, an attempt might be forthcoming. Nice coat Rudy!

Raglan sleeve Ulster
Just when I thought it was safe to go to the tailors, I stumble upon the following photo of one of the all time greats, Noel Coward. And what a marvel he has nonchalantly draped over his shoulders, yes, a raglan Ulster of the Polo variety…and an amazing specimen at that.
Now, if you are counting, that is Valentino and Coward wearing the model, so it bears further investigation. No, lets be clear…I am going to have to make that Coward coat come what may!
Cheers
