I believe that somewhere on this forum I had posted that I had been having difficulties with a Dege & Skinner order. Since I cannot find the thread where I made the original post, I am starting a new one to report that the problem has been resolved to my satisfaction.

(I would prefer to include the positive outcome in the same thread as the complaint. If any reader happens to know the location of that thread, please let me know so I can post there as well.).

Dopey, I don't recall what your difficulties with Dege were. Would you mind recapitulating what the problem was, how you resolved it, and whether you would do anything differently in the future to avoid a repeat? It would be instructive for everybody.

Jcusey:

I posted a bit more on the Ask Andy Darren Beaman thread, which I have reproduced, in part, below:

[quote]I have been using a well-known visiting Savile Row tailor for a long time. My most recent order had some very serious problems, some of which I was doubly annoyed about as I saw them coming and tried to head them off but was stubbornly (to my mind) rebuffed. I was incensed enough to pen a long e-mail, complete with photos. To their credit, I received no argument - just a phone call with embarrassed apologies and a statement (no need for promises) that they would set things right. On their next NY visit, we arranged a Sunday fitting to accommodate constraints in my schedule. I have not gotten to the final outcome yet, but I have every reason to expect either a good result or yet another try.

Note that when I returned home after making that post, the suit and blazer were waiting for me and I am very pleased with the outcome. Overall, I give them a B. They could have responded to my complaints quicker although they were not unresponsive -- just a bit slow in actually connecting. In any event, they saw me on their next visit with arrangements made well in advance. They could also have made some effort to compensate me for the fact that I paid for my suit about five months before I got to use it. On the other hand, they were responsible and pleasant to deal with and offered apologies and explanations of what they could. Most importantly, the final result is exactly as it should have been.

If you pm me, I would be glad to e-mail full details, but as the problem was resolved to my satisfaction, I don't want to harp on the negative.

I don't think my experience lends itself to much in the way of education for others. There is nothing I could really have done in advance to avoid the problem nor should I have done anything differently in getting the problem fixed. If I believed there would be a benefit to others in publicly posting the details of my complaints, I would do so. I don't think it is warranted in this case.
