Shoe Laces

As I'm not so satisfied about shoe laces I have on some of my shoes: do you know specific brands and qualities? Where do you suggest to buy them?

Giona, I'm of no help whatsoever when it comes to brands of shoelaces, but I'd be interested to know about what properties you like or dislike in your shoelaces.

Well, some of them do not have "body", are too small and thin; look poor.

You should be able to find a good variety at your local John Lobb. I especially like the slightly flattened variety, usually found on their vintage and St. Crispin's day shoes.

I hate to say it, but the only Hermes store I've been into has been in HK airport and they certainly carried an extensive range of John Lobb shoes (the only reason I went in: for some reason I've never fancied Hermes' products). I would suspect that they also stock some accessories.

I found them! I searched in every shoes accessories shop in Milano. I found a nice rounded , thicker, shoes lace in a waxed cotton. Very nice. I'd like to know if Tony uses one like this (but everybody can chime in). Is it ok for both formal and less formal shoes? or maybe for formal shoes is better a thinner one?

Good-looking shoelaces, Giona. Where did you find them? Who makes them?

A roughly similar waxed-cotton shoelace, "Cord-o-hyde" (I think), is made in the States and commonly available in several lengths in black and dark brown: very inexpensive, hard-wearing, and (dare I say it?) even elegant.

I should add (too bad I can't edit my posting) that "Cord-o-hyde" shoelaces are rather thinner than those photographed; but each has its uses.

If your ever in Dubai -in Dubai Mall in the fashion shoe area is a shop called the cobbler- waxed cotton shoe laces - look like leather. Flat or round and cut to length (bespoke) These are available is a wide range of colours. Im not sure if the guy who does shoe polishing in Burlington Arcade also provides this service.Hope this helps.
