Glenurquhart Plaid (Glen Plaid) quandry

Hello, I am a new member and this is my first post, so forgive me if this is answered elsewhere.

I have recently purchased a Glenurquhart Plaid (also known as Glen Plaid) three piece suit. It is mainly greyish-brown and has a navy and pink/red check running through it. I would certainly wear a plain, solid shirt with it, but does anyone have any suggestions on what tie would match?

I have been told variously to try an ecru shirt and maroon tie (prefab. foulard) or go with a red wine shirt and plaid tie, but would I need the plaids to match?
