Button orientation
For blazer buttons with designs (eg. college crest), what is the correct orientation for the cuff buttons? I presume they should be the right way up when you cross your arms in front of you.
Or at ninety degrees to the line of the buttonhole, just as the buttons in front are. That, at least, is how I think that I'd wear marked buttons.
Nelson buttons (old RN design) with an anchor and a wreath should be at a slight angle on front and sleeves but trust to the tailor for the specifics of this detail.

The buttons will be shanked and the shank orientation will determine how the are set. They shank will be parallel to the buttonhole.
I think that cannot be always right, since the large buttons for the front have the shank horizontal.dopey wrote:The buttons will be shanked and the shank orientation will determine how the are set. They shank will be parallel to the buttonhole.
Thanks for the replies.
You realize that you are now making me check my facts instead of speculating. That is always unpleasant.NCW wrote:I think that cannot be always right, since the large buttons for the front have the shank horizontal.dopey wrote:The buttons will be shanked and the shank orientation will determine how the are set.
