White flannels?

Good afternoon..

As summer is supposedly approaching, I would like to get some white flannel trousers made up, but am having a hard time finding a good suitable summer weight material..

Any pointers would be most welcome...

I found something in a Draper's book that replicates the look of white flannel, but is much more suitable for warm weather. It's a wool/cotton blend, about 9 ounce, I think. The cotton gives the cloth a nap, not quite a flannely nap, but better than nothing.

I agree that true flannel is too hot for summer. I know it used to be a summer staple, but I can't imagine wearing it myself.

I have a few pairs of summer flannels from Paul Stuart. They are perfectly comfortable in warm weather. They are, however, tissue thin and somewhat flimsy feeling. They don't get abused, but I am surprised they have held up through three seasons as well as they have.

Scabal and others offer very light (8-10oz) twills that are brushed a little. Some have a tad of mohair to add body.

Thank you one and all - exactly the input I needed.. flannel is indeed way too heavy for Cannes in late May, but I like the 'hang' of a more substantial material..

I will try and track down some of the 9oz. twill - but I fear I may have had left it too late now to team with the navy blazer trimmed in white grosgrain and white bucks I was hoping to sport at the film festival this year...

Wish me luck..

I believe that Mr Alden has in the past raised the possibility of a Cloth Club edition of white flannel, but that he was disappointed by the lack of interest. Given that the issue has come up again shall we try once again to rouse the necessary support for this wonderful idea? I'd very much like to find a good white flannel for summer trousers.

I would be interested, depending upon the weight.

Indeed I would be very interested... Back from Cannes now, where the unforeseen and impossible-to-predict monsoon-like bursts of rain rendered the wearing of white bucks / white flannels and blue blazer implausible anyway...

I think it is a good time to reopen the white summer flannels discussion on the clothclub
