I understand your point, Sir.

Come to think of it, I used to watch an old cowboy TV series Ponderosa, which, if I recall correctly, involved the Cartwright family living in West Virginia. So, similarly, I would not expect to see lots of horses and cowboys shooting it out in a salon stocked with glamorous ladies all looking like Marilyn Monroe.

Actually, I'm thinking of settling down in a hill-billy state.

As you may be aware, real estate prices in Shanghai and the rest of urban Asia are getting astronomical.

A large detached home with a respectably large land area of an acre in suburban Shanghai may cost a minimum of a hundred million Yuan, about 5 million U.S. Dollars.

A good class (i.e., at least a third of an acre=43,560 sq. ft.) bungalow in urban Singapore would cost maybe 8 million U. S. Dollars.

I understand houses are even more costly in places like Bombay, Peking, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

While watching CNN, I learned that the size of President Bush's ranch in Texas is about 1,600 acres.

This week, while watching the progress of Mrs. Clinton's campaigning in West Virginia, I learned that West Virginia is a very poor place. My hope to find a place as large as the current U.S. president's ranch at a much, much cheaper price seems fulfillable in a place like West Virginia.

My ultimate purpose is to settle down in a nice place, so the time of visiting is not that important. The only kind of climate I abhor is one with a temperature above 35 degrees Centigrade (95 degrees Fahrenheit). So I will definitely be avoiding the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Can't understand why it can be held in August this year!

Sir, I hope my most recent post (about visiting hill-billy country; forget about the weaponry part) satisfies your query.

Another alternative to ensuring safety is to put a "First Iraq, then France" bumper sticker and the same message on a button on one's lapel.

May it win you many friends in the "red" states. (Red does not mean communist here)

Thanks for the tip, Oscar Fan, but can't risk it, Sir. One in five voters there are probably non-Reds.

Thank you, Sir. Glad this option is available, but what colour scheme for cowboy wear should be adopted or avoided in a hill-billy state?
pvpatty wrote:The cowboy option may be feasible, I can recall a few examples of such attire being sported by the locals while I was there.
