Bespoke shirts from Sean Oflynn

Gentlemen,

I am thinking of purchasing some bespoke shirts and I am thinking of giving Sean OFlynn a try. In particular I like his rule of not having to commit to a number of shirts at first order.

After reading through various post in the londonlounge he seems to be recommended.

Does anyone know if he offers a replacement cuff and collar option for when the shirts get worn out? and what the cost is? Or if anyone else offers this service as this is the reason why I have to replace my current off the peg shirts and if I'm going bespoke I would like the backup of them lasting a little longer?

I have had one shirt made by him. It came out very well as a first shirt. He is now making me a further 4 shirts. I feel that he is more interested in my opinion than the people at T&A were so I am looking forward to receiving my new shirts. I would just call Sean and ask him all the questions you might have. He is easy to get along with.

Do you have a sense (or any hard information) on how much control over his production he has? I.e., are the seamstresses on his payroll, or part of a larger factory that handles many such shirtmakers?

Most shirtmakers will replace collars and cuffs and other repairs. If you are a customer they will often take-in shirts made by others.

I haven't had cuffs and collars changed for at least a year. The charge can run to $75+ for each item depending upon the shirtmaker. This was Turnbull's price a couple of years ago. No one does it for free unless the collar/cuffs wear out prematurely due to poor cotton or poor workmanship.

Therefore, before embarking upon collar/cuff replacement you have to weigh whether the expense is worthwhile. You could pay upwards of $150 for collar/cuffs. You have to be sure that the rest of the shirt is in good condition.

Some shirtmakers offer collar cuff replacements at a very reasonable cost, such as Cego in New York. I used to use another shop which specialized in alterations and repairs, and they took forever to do the job, and they were unpleasant. Cego did a much better job.

I tried Sean. He's very good.

I haven't worked with Sean in well over a year, but when I was there he had seamstresses on his payroll. As I did not work for him, I am unsure of his exact operations.

Either way, Sean has made me several shirts and as I have stated before, I highly recommend him.
