In the last four years the amount of information about bespoke tailoring and clothing has increased dramatically via the internet, shops, MTM merchants etc. As many of our younger members have confided, a good deal of this information can be confusing and contradictory. So I have decided to create the Corrigenda file so that members can find their way through the mass of information and get concrete answers or corrections to obvious errors of fact.

As a general statement, I would encourage new arrivals to the bespoke world to research carefully the qualifications and taste of the people who offer advice. The best solution is to find a mentor, family member or friend who dresses well. If you like their dress, ask them to help. If you are researching via the net, seek out photographic record of a writer’s taste, and judge if this taste corresponds to your own. If you read people dropping names of tailors, ask to see pictures of them wearing the artisan’s work. A good photo can replace thousands of words when explaining taste.

Using the Corrigenda resource, learning about the bespoke arts should be a bit less confusing. Feel free to post your questions here.

Best

Michael Alden

I think this is a good idea, but do not understand its form. Will this thread be the Corrigenda, or will you be making a special folder elsewhere?

This thread is the Corrigenda. As questions are answered I will move them into a new file on the forum called, The Sartorial FAQ.
