I recently saw a couple of very expensive RTW gentlemen's overcoats and couldn't understand why the lining stopped around the waist. I thought that it cheapened the coats but I'm sure there must be a reason for it. I have searched the site for an explanation but failed to find one.
Thanks

Dear Wendy

Half lined or unlined garments are actually more time consuming to craft and therefore more expensive for the simple reason that all the seams hidden by lining need to be finished by hand. Many bespoke clients prefer unlined garments for their comfort and for the fact that a garment without lining will form more quickly to the wearer's body than one made with excessive padding and lining.
