Slightly off topic perhaps, but I remember as a school boy in my teens, my friends and I considered it to be cooler to leave a matt finish on your shoes by not buffing the polish. Obviously as a reaction to a highly polished finish. Has anyone heard of similar fads?

I polish my shoes to a MAT shine, never with water, spitt or champagne ...
I prefer the mat look, and to see the texture of the leather.

I had a pair of my shoes mirror polished this past weekend. I didn't like it.

I prefer more of a lustre than a shine.
