hand-made shirts!
"Hand-made shirt" usually means that some seams are made by hand; others not. For example, buttons usually attached by hand; side seams usually made by machine.
It is virtually impossible to find a shirt with 100% of seams sown by hand.

I think only Arnys in Paris will make a 100% hand made shirt if requested for aprox 500 euro

Ok I could be wrong , but it would be nice to have such an absolute short reply signed (especially in a gentlemen's lounge) so that we know where it's coming from

It is, moreover, a simple act requested by the founder of the Lounge. Perhaps our negator just forgot.

RJ.
Arnys does not make any of its shirts, whether RTW or bespoke. For bespoke, they work with a subcontractor who handles bespoke for a few other places. The buttonholes are handstitched and the sleeves are set into the shirt by hand. I don't think the rest of the shirt is handstitched. Arnys' shirts start at 550 euros, with a minimum order of 3. If you want a completely handmade shirt, I suspect you'd have to hunt down and work directly with some small tailor in Italy. And it likely wouldn't be anyone you've heard of.
Again, RJ.
Dear RJ , thank you for signing your reply . With all the respect thought I didn't quite understand how what you write is of much difference to what I proposed to our dear guest.
I did not say that Arnys make their shirts in-house - as they don't do with many other of their products . However as you agreed they hand stitch the button holes and the sleeves are hand stitched too. (which is a lot more hand work than most other shirt makers will do, that is without saying that hand work means a better shirt) Further on you said that you don't think that the rest of the shirt is hand made . Well I have been told by them that if it is requested they will do it . Actually Michel cuts the shirt and they then send it to an atelier where it can be hand made . Regarding the price it's more or less the same only that I know of a 4 shirts min first order which is not very important anyway .
Kind regards
Vassilis

Well, I don't want to get into a pissing match about this. It's well known in Paris -- apart from the editors of Monsieur magazine -- that Michel Korn is a salesman, not a shirtmaker, so I would be surprised that he cuts the shirt. Of course, Paris retail circles are pretty catty. I consider a four shirt minimum order when the price is nearly $900 a shirt pretty important, but let me stop quibbling.Anonymous wrote:Dear RJ , thank you for signing your reply . To the original poster, hand making is a pretty widely misused term. A few Italian shirt brands available in the US like Borrelli feature some handwork, but I don't think any 100% handmade shirt is available in the US, assuming you are based there. It is also debatable whether handmaking actually adds any quality to a shirt. Certainly bad handsewing could detract from quality, and not all hand sewers are created equal.

My intentions were not a match at all .There are always to help someone with any experience that I have and I'm truly sorry if that was the impression I gave you .
On your assumption of where I'm based , I'm based in Athens Greece , I have studied and lived in London for years and I travel to Paris nearly once a month .I also travel to Italy very often so everything I humbly try to suggest in this forum comes only from my experience . I agree 100% with you about the catty side of Parisian trade but I have also experienced some very high quality (in my opinion ) service there .
Kind regards

Vassilis -- hope you didn't misunderstand me -- when I spoke about "the original poster" and made assumptions about where he was based, I meant the person who originally asked about whether Italian shirts were handmade, since I thought I ought to try to respond to his question after having nearly derailed the thread.Anonymous wrote:My intentions were not a match at all .There are always to help someone with any experience that I have and I'm truly sorry if that was the impression I gave you .
