Choosing a tailor for suits and uniforms
Supposing you wear a suit for everyday business, yet work in an organization (not the military) where a dress uniform will occasionally be called for, how do you choose a tailor? Should you prefer a tailor who does both uniforms and suits, or does it make more sense to have two different ones? Will the cutter be the same for uniforms and suits in case of the former? Any recommendations for tailors in the UK who do both, if that is preferable?
Dege & Skinner would be an excellent choice. As Gieves would have been, and still might be.
Henry Poole recently made the Lord Chamberlain's Court Dress coat and still make shrieval Court Dress. The LC's coat was exhibited in Paris. They used to make the uniforms for the Governor-Generals - both Court and tropical. They can do anything. Not sure about Gieves anymore. Recently, their tailors had never heard of knee breeches. Ede & Ravenscroft in Chancery Lane do all the legal Court suits for the Judges and QCs and make the Monarch's and peers' robes.
I have to agree with Dege (& Skinner) who made my service dress. They also make/repiar the uniforms for the Royal Household staff.
