Why do knitted silk ties have a square end?

What you always wanted to know about Elegance, but were afraid to ask!

For a picture, see for example here: http://pakeman.com/mens-knitted-silk-ties.asp
Does anyone know why?

And as follow-up: do also 'normal' point shaped knitted silk ties exist?

form follows function - the square end it the simplest mean of closing or finishing the
knitting.

I'll probably be passing by the Kilgour shop(s) sometime this week to check them out in person. I've also been after a silk knit tie with pointy end for quite a while.

Clearly, a matter of personal taste.

I'm with Cantab. on this, rather than with "Anonymous".

Thanks. I like the Kilgour designs with the pointed end, but those are a bit too fashionably skinny for me. Give them just one a decent lunch and they'll be fine.

I definitely favor the pointed solid knit tie. Please see my post in anonymous Q & A, which started Wednesday, April 25, 2007 and is entitled "Solid knit tie". Thanks to help from some of our members I found a beautiful solid knit pointed tie on ebay that I bought for a song. In fact, I am wearing the navy knit tie today. It looks great and I receive numerous compliments every time I wear it. Good luck in your search.

Another thing to like about Arnys (and another thing for iammatt to dislike about them).
