White vs. Black dinner jacket

I'm wondering whether it is possible to regard the white dinner jacket the day-time semi-formal equivalent of the black dinner jacket; something like formal dress' morning tail coat vs. evening tail coat .

HS, the white dinner jacket is simply a variant allowable for hot weather (even in hot weather, the black dinner jacket is always acceptable). No dinner jacket should be worn in daylight.

I completely agree with RWS.
White Dinner jacket is the equivalent of midnight blue and black dinner jacket , to be used during summer time and for hot climates. Indeed, it is as elegant as the other two versions and should not be downgraded in formality by wearig it before eight p.m.
Until now I have only seen maitres d'hotel , headwaiters and barrenders wearing it in the morning or in the afternoon.
In my opinion in order to give a more personal touch of elgance to this outfit it would be advisable to match the white or light cream linen or cotton jacket with midnight blue mohair trousers.

Really? I have seen many times men wearing black tie too early, sometimes just after lunch at around 4pm. In fact, the dressing code of many morning/day weddings is (of course, erroneously) black tie. You can tell just by the un-matching of daylight with black tie that it just isn't for that time.

And anyway HS, I thought your name member name was referring to 'strollers', which are THE real day-time semi-formal equivalent of evening-night semi-formal black tie.

We are very lucky .At least in Italy we do not see the miserable show of people wearing dinner suits for daytime wedding cerimonies as this habit, differently from other countries ,is almost completely absent.

I agree totally with you, Sir, but I just use my Stroller for strolling along the streets and parks of Shanghai. And now the weather has finally decided to turn cool, perhaps it will be the turn of the seersucker suit first for the next few weeks.

I just thought the white dinner jacket looks so ideal for wearing at a day-time garden party held in a tropical or equatorial climate. Looks like I have make a new off-white lounge suit in case the sartorial police raids the party.
