The exchange rate must be catching up - Lobb bespoke in NY now starts at $5500 + tax and goes up from there
They do, however, now have a full time person to measure and fit bespoke customers in the NY store
Never used them for bespoke and at these prices one can get nearly three Viennese bespoke shoes if one goes with Balint or ten+ if one goes with Maftei!

To give you an idea of some of overhead of running an international chain, the perfume store next to Lobb carries a monthly rental of $50,000.
Well, I guess that I'll have to stick with Thom McCann!

This is from 6-7 years ago -- back then I was told that the revenues needed for the Lobb New York store to breakeven for the year were approx $2mm -- which was nearly 2500-3000 RTW shoes at then prices (i.e., need to sell approx 10 shoes/day) -- the store was breakeven to a slight loss back then
Given the change in the exchange rate and other costs (including rents), this figure is probably closer to $3mm now -- which would translate into more or less the same number of shoes to be sold per day
I wonder if the increase in foot traffic the last few years (due in part to the interest generated by all the clothing sites) has made Lobb and other such stores much more profitable
It also surprises me that at $5500+ a shot, Lobb is selling enough custom shoes in NY to justify keeping a full time person on the staff here
