Looking for good taste led Alden and RJ to a nice café near the Faubourg St. Honore and the degustation of a Hoyo de Monterray Epicure #2 that had spent five years in the captivity of a Elie Bleu humidor. So it just seemed fitting to go down the street and pay the illustrious maker a short visit.

There are humidors and there are humidors, but the Elie Bleu boxes are something special. What are the greatest challenges for a humidor maker? Finding quality raw materials, like flawless and odor laden Spanish cedar from South America.

Elie Bleu makes humidors, jewelry boxes, boxes for pen collectors, cigar accessories etc. The cases with the small circular windows are for displaying wrist watches.

The two humidifers are doused every once and awhile in distilled water. They maintain the humidor at a perfect 70 degrees humidity. My own Elie Bleu's have varied vary little over time and keep a constant humidity level with little effort.

If you don't want one of the more classic styles, you can opt for a limited edition "Che" humidor which includes a leather bound edition of Das Kapital.

After such a difficult visit at Elie Bleu, the LL team decided to continue its search for good taste and lo and behold, La Maison du Whiskey. Who would have thought to find such a collection of Scottish good taste in France?

Take your pick, all the major terroir are represented in this store

Islay, Speyside, Highlands, Orkney, Irish, Bourbons...

Why not a Japanese scotch? The twenty year old from Nippon was delicious.

The camera is fine, there are occupational hazards to looking for good taste.

absolutely! Japanese whisky is wonderful. Suntory makes the stuff I love most...especially the single malts...I am not totally surprised...the Japanese have a great passion...that when they are interested and apply themselves to any artisanal field, they tend to excel...witness Namiki pens, Samurai swords, beer, and of course whisky.

The Japanese whiskey shown above is delicious. I was very surprised by its smoothness and balance.

Michael - in the second photo there is a blue humidor on the right. I believe this is a 300 count Flor de Alba. Not to confuse posts, and clearly the green-eyed monster over your recent “taste” search may be to blame, but if the LL humidor has stalled – would this model be of interest? JAS

At risk of being droll, does anyone else think that "Alden and RJ look for good taste" sounds kind of like an outre stoner road movie?

Well, we did stop at Chateau Blanc for a bite on the way home.
