I like seersucker but would it be appropriate for business wear? And where can I get some by mail order?
Thanks

Cotton suits?
It would depend on your work environment, I suppose.

SS projects an image of a member of the leisure class; in particular, that of the owner of a Southern United States (of America) plantation. It would regarded as mainly for Summer wear in the Northeast US (of A). Basically ideal for Sunday church attendance.
If you're in the creative industry, perhaps it's always suitable. If you're a sole proprietor of a little shop, why not? If you're top dog in a corporation, yes, Sir!
Many SS nowadays come with business-oriented non-patch pockets, complete with flaps and notch lapels, suitable for a business environment.
Just google for seersucker suit to find a suitable mail order source.

Although there are "issues" at Beckenstein's, NYC, they usually have a very nice variety of seersucker, and in season, corduroy. Prices very favorable. I don't know where it's made, I suspect the Far East, but the colors are interesting. Another option is so called seercord, which doesn't have the pucker. You can find this in the better cloth merchants books, made in Italy. Certainly a novelty cloth. I had some caps made of it, by the UK hat maker, that did the Alden linen caps.
If you look at my photojournal, you will see a photo of an Italian all cotton sports jacket. I got the cloth years ago at Harrods, when they sold Dormeuil. It is a very light, thin, fabric. It does wrinkle, but I have to say it is one of my favorite jackets. It is as cool as linen, and wrinkles less. I have not been able to find a similar cloth. I'm sure it exists, but I haven't seen it.

Thank you for your replies. I would prefer to buy the fabric rather than a RTW garment. Seersucker would be a nice fabric for the heat and humidity of the Philippines. I did google for seersucker but all I could come up with were RTW garments rather than fabric.
From memory, Holland & Sherry offer it. Email Werner Topel for a swatch. topel_w@hollandandsherry.co.uk
