Dear Sirs,

I consider perfumes as part of the dress, and I use one everyday.

Now, I'm curious to know if people in this forum uses perfumes; and which kind, brand?

I do not like perfumes that has "flowers" in it, and I tend to like best the lavenders and leathers. Also I like not too much strong essences, but still persistent.

Two of my favourites are from Creed: Royal English Leather and Royal Scottish Lavender.

One that I like much, and it is the strongest that I use, it is Knize Ten: it's and incredible perfume and the most persistant I know.

Giona.

I like perfumes. It is a part of the dress for me too.
My favourites are Chanel Platinum Egoiste, Essenza di Zegna by Ermenegildo Zegna.

Giona,

I don't wear cologne every day, but I have a preference for sandalwood and citrus. My favourite scent is Blenheim Bouquet from Penhaligons.

Never. I used to use after-shave, and always pretty clean and light stuff. Trafalgar from Truefitt & Hill, and various lime-based things from Bermuda.

Now it just feels superfluous. Also, because I seem to be getting allergic to my wife's perfumes--- which she always looked forward to using--- it would be bad manners to revel in my own store-bought fragrances.

On that last note, I've heard that in the last decade, nearly every perfume manufacturer has switched from natural essences to manufactured. They obviously smell roughly the same, but this might explain my newfound irritation at their presence. Anyone know about this?

I tend to wear just a dash of cologne, especially if going out in the evening. My favourite was Acqua di Parma, but my wife hated it on me. She likes the way that I wear RL Safari -- and who am I to argue.

I, too, have heard that synthetics are used more often than not in the industry. I suspect that it has to do with "stability" of the fragance -- and most proabably, price.

I understand that there are some perfumers who will creat a bespoke fragrance.... Creed may be one of them.

I Like Richard James for day, and Villoresi Piper for the evening. I use just a hint of cologne, only perceived if close by

My daily is Royall Lyme from Bermuda, which was always my father's choice and lets me remember him every morning. For evening, my current favorite is Eucris by Trumper's.

Helmut Lang's Cuiron for evening - very masculine, yet not overbearing. Acqua Di Parma or Ferragamo for the day-time, especially during the summer months. I am a bit believer in less is more though. Also, one's significant other must approve.

Scents I have recently tried which I am not indifferent to:

Eau d'Orange by Hèrmes
Eau de Sauvage by Christian Dior
Blenheim Bouquet by Penhaligon's
Charvet Cuvée Royale by Charvet
l'Ether by IUNX (in fact, the entire IUNX line is interesting)
l'Egoiste by Chanel

Bluebell by Penhaligon's is simply disgusting. The new Armani Privé collection interesting but overpriced. Want to try the exclusive Malle scents on Rue du Grenelle. Annick Goutal in Paris seems to be doing interesting things as well.

Does any one know what became of this brand? It used to be English, then got bought by an Italian company, then vanished from Europe, and now is sold in the States with an ersatz formula, "blended" or distributed by a NY outfit. Does the margque orginale still exist?

I was brought up to feel that a gentleman would not use scent; and I've yet to overcome that feeling. On the rare occasion that I do splash something on, it usually is Guerlain's Imperiale; I may try Acqua di Parme soon, chiefly because of the responses I've read from our group.

I currently have Acqua di Parma, Creed Vetiver and Creed Tabarome.

Carthusia will probably be my next perfume (Mediterraneo or IO).

I also have a perfume everyday. For day perfumes I usually use Montblanc individuel, RL Blue, and for the evening YSL Opium and Montblanc presence.

In Bernhard Roetzel's 'gentleman' are various classical perfumes listed...
