I recommend staying away from sharkskin. It's a bit too shiney, and it imparts the image of someone who is a bit sharp, such as a gambler.
Go with a matte finish which is a specialty of the English makers, such as Lessers, Smiths, Harrison's, and Dugdale.
I have the herringbone by Harrison's which is pictured above. I think that it would fine.
Good luck!
Conservative Navy Cloth
I don't think sharkskin necessarily says "gambler". The producers mentioned above made very elegant examples that don't shine and don't look flashy.
I caution against Harrison's Premier Cru. I have one suit of this, and I have not found the cloth to be a solid performer. It lacks guts and body, does not drape well, does not hold a crease, and really shows off the coat's interior construction in an unsightly way. To me, it is an example of what goes wrong when a producer focuses on Super number at the expense of other factors. This is not to take away from anyone who has had a better experience with this cloth, just one man's opinion.
