Flannel odd jacket

I am thinking about getting a mid to dark grey flannel odd jacket for winter. I saw a flannel cashmere book from H&S that looked quite good.

- Are there other books I should look at? I prefer a sturdier flannel (if that exists).
- What trousers would a grey flannel odd jacket go with?
- What about style? Are there details that specific to flannel jackets?

Other advice would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The worsted and woolen flannels from Harrison's are excellent. I think they are better than a cashmere flannel. That being said, why don't you just get a flannel suit. Grey flannel odd jackets generally look like orphaned suitcoats no matter what, and you can always wear the jacket separately if you like. I can't think of another pant I would put with a grey flannel jacket.

I agree with iammatt, get a suit.

Harrisons and Minnis both make better flannels than H&S. They are certainly sturdier. 400g is a good weight. For mid gray, try Minnis 0301 or Harrisons 39029. Harrisons 39030 is darker but retains the visual interest for which flannel is loved.

I second iammatt's advice to have a suit made rather than a flannel jacket.
I have recently bought an outstanding quality 2.10 mts end of bolt length (very good price for that reason) in mid-grey flannel with a barely visible hairline-wide lighter (but not white) pinstripe 1 cm apart. The length was just right for a jacket, but with all regret I knew I could only have pants made in that cloth, for the reason that iammatt explained. It's not even enough for 2 pairs
Of course you could opt for details that would set it apart from a suit coat, but do you really want a grey sports jacket?

A plain flannel coat can be worn well with patterned trousers. Imagine the grey flannel jacket with the LL limited edition tweed PoW patterned trouser as an example.

The feel of flannel is difficult to resist, so make up a few odd jackets and wear them in comfortable good health!
