Pancerina

T4phage and Alden posted pictures of a trouser detail called 'pancerina' in response to one of my threads. I have posted them below for reference. I have some basic questions:

- What is its purpose?
- Would it serve its purpose on trousers that are cut without braces or belt?
- How come the T4phage's is attached to the waistband, whereas Alden's is attached below the waistband?

Since kolecho had the good idea of turning this into a self-standing topic, may I also add my question (which got no answer in the original post, probably because it was off the main topic): does the pancerina work in any way differently from the horizontal (sometimes diagonal) tab that most tailors put on the right side inside the fly, which buttons to a button sewn on the left side?

From what I am told, yes. From what I have experienced, no.

I actually find them a bit of a pain to button and prefer the ones that you mention.

My tailor cuts what Costi described. So far my pants have stayed up , but I am always interested in better alternatives.
