I entreat you: less expensive watches

While I love the watches shown and discussed herein, I am not able to afford them. Does anyone have any suggestions for watches that are elegant but at the same time less than a car?

hmm...depends on how much the car costs?

For newbies starting to collect watches, I will offer the following suggestions to seek out and find Authorized Dealers who stock them. Go to the dealer, and ask the see the watches...put them on your wrist, wind them, examine the movement if visible from the back with a 5X loupe.

I suggest starting with the following:

1. JLC Reverso Grande Taile. Very well made reverso case. Nice movement, and in SS with croc strap is quite reasonable in pricing. If you dont like the rectangular case, try the Master Grande Taile or the Master Ultra Thin.

2. Jean Richard Bressel or TV Screen. Nice entry level pieces.

3. Eberhard. Great value, good watches. I like the Traversetolo.

4. Oris, is good value. I especially like the Jazz Tribute series.

5. Or look for used...an older IWC, or JLC won't norrmally burst the bank...

Provided your starting price is at least $500, you should be able to find a good automatic/mechanical watch that meets your stylistic requirements.

For the low end (under 2k), I would also look at
Hamilton
Sinn
Fortis
Longines
and some Omegas

If you want to spend even less than $500, I would suggest you look at the Seiko Superior watches. Some of them have automatic movements. With some care, you should be able to find an attractive watch. Does not have the snob appeal of the other brands though.
