Tried Eric de Sousa champagne the other night at The Modern. It was very disappointing.
The meal at The Modern was excellent. The champagne was the only disappointment.

We had asked the sommelier for a full, robust, and dry champagne that would take use through first couple of courses. Rather than picking a name brand, we asked him other ideas, and the De Sousa was his suggestion. The Modern’s wine list is impressive and fully valued. The De Sousa was $275 USD.
The adjectives from my fellow diners were thin, sweet, and metallic aftertaste. As for the sommelier – shame on us for putting our trust in princes. My own comments were that it was forgetable.

For that price one should be drinking Salon. Having said that, some restaurants do not permit one to indulge in decent wine unless one ignores cost completely.
Unfortunately, the US government has made it near impossible to find Selosse Champagnes here. I can only think of two restaurants in San Francisco that still have any, and the sommolier at one told me that he has a total of six bottles left. Too bad because it is really great stuff.

Thats dissappointing. The Modern has a great wine list and I have always found their sommelier's recommendations to be spot on.
The Modern was really good, and we'll go back. I most impressed with the dishes, glasses, silverware, and the room itself.
I wonder what the government's issue is with the Jacques Selosse. Some wine stores in NYC have also told me that it is unavailable. I wonder what the government's issue is with the Jacques Selosse. From what I understand the US government added some extra restrictions as far as labelling or some such thing and Selosse was not willing to change his labels.
