Any favourite sunglasses? Seems hard to find anything that doesn't verge on the obnoxious. Recommendations would be appreciated...

Cutler & Gross are quite classic and evocative.

The new Tom Ford stuff looks over the top and should be avoided, for wannabes who didn't buy the Ferrari sunglasses in the 70s the first time. Actually, RJ was selling the real thing last year.

Serengeti. A very broad range of designs and a pretty picture. Most sunglasses protect one and add a blur in the process. Serengeti does not. Colors can still be distinguished and they are a treat to drive with.

Cutler & Gross aren't bad. I also have a pair from Oliver Peoples that have held up surprisingly well.

I like Silhouette. Unlike other sunglasses, they don't crimp because of the lightness and flexibility. The rimless lenses are also a plus to me, though not for everyone.

Do sunglasses disprove the theory that classic style persists? Is there any style of sunglasses that would have looked good at any time over the last 20 years, in the way that clothes could easily have looked good over that period?

This summer I'm wearing a new pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers - their current version of the Eighties classic. They're pretty heavy to wear, but I'm happy with the way they look. I love that very few people are wearing them - lots in London are still wearing aviators.

There is a local company (San Francisco) called 8 Below Zero that makes some very nice sunglass frames. The styles are similar to Cutler and Gross, but perhaps slightly less exaggerated. They are worth a shot.

Real horn sunglasses can be very nice as well.
