Woven Flannels

Anyone know the difference between woven and true flannels....from angle of appearance, weight, production technique?

I don't have the answer but given the importance of flannel in a man's wardrobe perhaps some of our LL cloth experts can help with this Q.

Pretty much all I can add to manton's description is that at the heavier weights (eg 18 oz) one tends to find woolen flannels and not worsted.
