I was given a stainless Oyster Perpetual for my undergrad graduation in 1977. It has an understated gunmetal-gray face, no dials or scallops, and is slightly smaller than the usual diver models, in proportion with my narrower wrists. I wear a President sport band with it, though it could easily take a leather strap.

The last time I had it fully serviced, at an "authorized" jeweler here in Philadelphia, it came back with some circular scratches in the bezel that could only have occurred during the process of screwing it in or out. Next time I take it in, I'll be more selective, and would hope to find someone who can do the kind of finish restoration (and/or parts replacement) appreciated by pchong and other members here, along with top-notch cleaning and adjustment to the movement.

I would think one advantage of the huge market in Rolexes would be that there should be at least one or two experienced, superb craftsmen and/or dealers who could execute such work to the highest standard, given the relative simplicity of this watch as compared to the marvels of complexity pchong has pictured here.

New York, Philadelphia, or D.C., would all be easily accessible to me. If this watch were yours, where would you take it for service?

Thanks in advance . . .

I would send it to the Authorized Rolex Service Center in NY.

Thanks, pchong. I googled this name and found a very encouraging narrative of working with this center at http://www.rolexreferencepage.com/service.html. I'll call them and set something up.
