Gentleman

Some years ago i bought a RTW suit with a POW (with blue overcheck).Unfortunatly i get out of shape and had this wonderful suit only 2 or 3 years :(
Since then im searching for this special kind of fabric.
Now i found pictures wich came very close to what im searching for!
I will post the link to the pictures in here and maybe some good soul can name me a source where i can order this cloth to an affordable price. Or maybe someone will have odd lot left of this. (for a three piece suit)
Here is a picture with a blue overcheck:

And here the direct Link:(full size)

The fabric should be a little bit warmer.

The other think im searching for is wool flannel i different shades of gray(for a three piece suit) at an affordable price too.

If i can have swatches to choose from i will be glad.

Thank you in advance for your help

Herbert K.

The fabrics you are looking for are generally available from several distributors. I know that I have seen the Prince of Wales check, with and without a blue overcheck in several weights in the offerings from various sources available at more than one tailor. I can’t remember which names specifically, but you should have no trouble finding something you like in the Lesser, Smith or Harrison books. I also urge you to look at the recent cloth club offering on this site. It i beautifully executed Prince of Wales check (no over check) in what appears to be a larger scale than the one you posted (though there is no way I can tell).

Flannels are certainly available in a variety of weights from Holand & Sherrry and J.J. Minnis.

I realize this is not too helpful as I have offered you no specifics, but perhaps the reassurance is worth something.

Mr. Alden has thankfully send me a sample of the Club POW but it is a little to brownish for me and i cant wear brown.
1.) I don`t feel comfortable in brown
2.) Brown do not look good on me

Is it possible to get swatches from Lesser, Smith or Harrison or Holand & Sherrry?
I always thought they will just give out their swatch books to tailors?
Maybe i need some contact in UK who will get those books and send them to me.

Hello Herbert K.

I've been looking at POW checks myself. As dopey said, most of the major fabric suppliers can offer blue overchecks of the type in the picture. It might be a little hard to obtain swatches.

If you are able to travel to Vienna I am reasonably certain that Knize would have Lesser, Loro Piana, Dormeuil and Smith. I was looking at similar fabrics in London today.

Vienna is about 3 hours away from me and usally don´t drive there.
Thank you for your information. Maybe a tailor here on LL can help me??

Hello Herbert K.

Well. Success for me was finding a POW that I liked enough for a new spring-summer suit. Unfortunately I'm not able to obtain swatches. In fact, the tailor had to telephone the Lesser sales representative to ask him to deliver a travel-swatch so I could select from Lesser's new range. I may be wrong but I suspect it is hard to obtain swatches without a trade account.

For those of us also shopping for spring and summer suit fabric, which Lesser did you get? It might help us identify it in the swatch books or point the tailor to the right new items.

I suggest you contact David Graham at Smith & Co in London (+44-20-7437 6226) or Penny DuBois at LBD http://www.lbd-harrisons.com/index2.htm. While they usually sell only wholesale, they will recommend a local distributor or supply the cloth directly. They should be able to mail a few samples to you.

Scabal, Dormeuil and Holland & Sherry all sell retail lengths through their London showrooms, as well.

A Prince of Wales with blue overcheck should not be a problem. It is a fairly standard item. In Central Europe, I often saw it referred to as an "Esterhazy", named after a famous Hungarian noble family.

thank you for the Link of lbd harrisons. Are Smith & Co or Holland and Sherry reachable by Email or do they have a website?
And yes POW is called Esterhazy Karo in Austria and Glencheck in Germany sometimes.
Prince of Wales Check isnt a common name here in Austria.

Smith & Co have no website, as far as I know. David Graham does have an e-mail, but I cannot find the address at the moment. I suggest you call the number I gave to obtain it.

Holland & Sherry: http://www.hollandandsherry.com/

Scabal: http://www.scabal.com/

Dormeuil: http://www.dormeuil.com
