What are your opinions on white pants? Did they exist as a wardrobe item in the 20s-30s? I have heard of white duck canvas pants, but am not sure what they were exactly. Were they pure white cotton?
I am thinking of getting a pair of the Bill's M1 khakis in a heavy white canvas, possibly to wear with a blue blazer, but am not sure if I will be committing a major sartorial faux pas.
White pants - Classic or Miami Vice?
For me the only white trousers are the linens for summer, but that's only my view.
The heavy white cotton canvas trousers are the classic white ducks worn with a blazer. Not for me, though.
I am also thinking of getting a pair of white ducks this spring/summer, maybe from Ben Silver. I am not sure what the white pants you see in old pictures were made of. Maybe flannel, but I´d guess wool gabardine (there is a picture of Dave Niven in Flusser`s Dressing the man showing the actor in white gabardines)... anyone? What are your opinions on white pants? White flannel trousers were standard attire for cricket in the pre-polyester era. My father until fairly recently wore them to play tennis.

I believe it was white flannel trousers with a blue blazer and repp tie. If the protagonist is Nick Carraway played by Sam Waterston.
