Is Savile Row still Savile Row?

Greetings Gentlemen:
Over the years I have done my own research on Savile Row, and over the years I have seen and read about the changes to this wonderful street. I have not yet had the chance to visit Savile Row or London for that matter, (I hope to soon get out to London).
My question for the LL members who have been to the Row lately or go to it on a regular basis, is what your opinion is about Savile Row in the 21st century?
In a DNR magazine that I saw last week at the clothing store I go to, the magazine had an article on "The New Savile Row" . I didn't want to read the whole thing because it had me scared, due to the fact that some contemporary high end boutiques were moving into the vacant stores next to existing tailors. I do hope there is still a place in the world and on Savile Row for good old fashioned tailors and haberdasheries.

Rest assured that the traditional Savile Row endures. There are fewer tailors than at the Row's heyday but at least some new ones emerge.

Whether Savile Row will still be the epicentre of men's tailoring in twenty or even ten years is harder to predict. The fashionable boutiques are indeed moving in, encouraged by an economy that has been growing for over 3 years. Some of this is ephemeral but there are wider issues at play: will suits be widely worn in ten years?

My understanding is that oil plays a pivotal role in the future of the Row. The major customers are not the English or even the Americans who used to be important to the Row. The bedrock business comes from Middle Eastern clients who will spend six figures a year on a new wardrobe.

Make your visit in the not too distant future whilst much old the old Savile Row can still be experienced.
