A recent post commented on having a deeper chest pocket to accomodate airplane tickets and another commented about pockets to accomodate cell phones.
I curious to learn what members are doing pocket-wise viz their cell phones, black-berries, pens, change, etc.
Cheers,
DDM

Cell phone / PDA in the shirt pocket (too heavy for the coat pocket - it throws a light jacket off balance). Also, its contour may show through the cloth on the outside.
Change in the port-monnaie (ideally); if not at hand, than in the ticket pocket of the overcoat (if any - ticket pocket or overcoat); last option - in the trouser pocket; NEVER in the coat/jacket hip pocket.
Fountain-pen in the specially-made pen-pocket, next to the chest pocket inside the coat/jacket; if it isn't there, then inside the coat's chest pocket, simply hung by the clip over its edge (sometimes even in the shirtpocket, next to the cell phone, to prevent the latter from laying crosswise and sinking to the bottom of the shirt pocket).
Handkerchief in the specially-made handkerchief-pocket, into the lining seam up on the left front panel (or lower inside the coat, on the left side).
I avoid carrying anything in the coat's hip pockets - the pocket mouth tends to bow with time and the coat loses its shape.

Good topic of enquiry.
Thus far, having commissioned bespoke coat number 3, I have opted for a left side cell phone pocket at the bottom of the coat (blackberry features available via the phone) and left side pen pocket. Change goes into coin pocket in the right hand trouser pocket.
Additionally I carry a long Briggs wallet in the left hand pocket, a Moleskine notebook in the right hand pocket. Everything else goes into my bag.
In future projects I plan a key fob "sub-pocket" to be built into the left hand trouser pocket.

Whittaker, I'm not picturing this, is it like an inside ticket pocket for a phone?

In two suits, currently in the making, I will finally have pockets tailored to the Montblanc Meisterstück (no. 149) I always carry. However, accomodating pens is not an easy task as the length -- and in my case weight -- of the pen might interfer a bit with the drape of the chest. Therefore, I am still undecided on whether to have the pen pocket right by the left hand chest pocket, or a bit lower. What do fellow loungers think of this?
Cheers,
Marcus Bergman
P.S. The late great Bruce Chatwin was rumoured to have his bespoke brown leather rucksack made with a special compartment for his Meisterstück. He also used the aforementioned Moleskin. Personally, I keep my notebook in the right hand pocket of my overcoat. I have found that the Cordings covert coat and the Smythson notebook go very well together in this regard. Notebooks should make an interesting new thread, by the way...

I have a number of single item pockets in my coats designed to cotain the item in question and avoid bulges.
Left
Large in-breast pocket with button/flap fastening for occasional larger pieces of paper which I do not want to fold below A5 size.
Pen Pocket: Pens inside not clipped.
Ticket pocket 1 for odd receipts and coins gathered in the course of a day.
Ticket pocket 2 for business cards
Right
Breast pcoket with button/flap fastening. Largely spare but could be used for thin walllet.
Pocket designed for airline tickets and passport.
Ticket pocket size one for a folded handkerchief
cell phone pocket with button/flap fastening.
Anything else (little) i carry goes in my trousers.which have two side pockets each with coin pockets inside , two back pockets (thin wallet and handkerchief) and a watch pocket in the waist band (one key) . the reality s that these are little used.

There is an inside pocket (usually on the left), down low, that tailors in the 30s and 40s called a cigarette pocket. I have that measured to fit my phone, and put the phone there.

When I must carry a mobile phone,
I place it in the same manner as manton.
It seems to do the least visual damage there.
Marcus,
I too always carry a fountain pen, and have pen slots put in all my jackets.
Quiet by accident I must confess, I have found the best place for a pen slot,
is just below the left breast pocket, high, and as close to the edge as possible so that the pen is in line with the straight portion of your chest and not the curved portion slightly off to your side.
It inflicts little or no trace at that spot.
All my jackets that have one slightly lower or a little more to the left put the pen in a position that I find awkward and noticeable.

A topic that's on my mind more and more lately. I have excellent coin pockets inside the right hand side pockets of several pairs of my trousers, one of which would be comfortably large enough to accomodate cards or currency. But we are treading into bulge territory. The key to success is a large pocket, to allow you to remove coins with ease, but quite tight (ie, not a lot of give), so that the coins don't bounce around and make noise.
My jackets are generally exceedingly light and quite fitted, so here I find a real problem. A small folding wallet goes in the left inner breast pocket, so the slight bulge, and visual distraction, of my pocket handkerchief renders it less prominent. Just a fountain pen on the right side. Phone in the lower inside left pocket, but I don't like it because it affects the drape, and places too much weight on the one side. I am considering switching to the very smallest and lightest one I can find...

I have to confess that bulges at this point are the least acceptable to me hence I try to avoid their use. This was behind my use of the inner pockets and why I am prepared to accept back pockts.

Really? I thought ticket pocket always referred to an
outside pocket above the right hip pocket, and about half as wide.

No a UK/saville Row tailor would certainly accord it that style - ' left (or right) in-ticket' for absolute clarity but ticket nonetheless.
If you look at

which is Edwin De Boise' on line MTM service you will see a refereence to the term. (the cloth combinations were purely an arbitrary way of getting to this link so ignore them)

Yes but without a button. They are so well done that when exiting a cab I can pat my jacket and coat looking for my cell phone and think I have misplaced it. It is identical, I imagine, to what manton has described above.

I also know this internal pocket as a ticket pocket, although I am told that technically it is a "ticket pocket in the facing". The small pockets within the (usually) right hip pocket are also called ticket pockets.
